Founded in 1950 by the Society of the Divine Word, Divine Word College of Bangued has been a beacon of Catholic education in the Abra province for over seven decades.

Arnold Janssen was a German Catholic priest and educator who founded three religious congregations: the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) in 1875, the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) in 1889, and the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters (SSpSAP) in 1896. A man of deep prayer and missionary zeal, he spread the Gospel through education and print media — launching the mission magazine The Little Messenger of the Sacred Heart before founding the SVD.
DWCB's Vision explicitly names St. Arnold as its model — aspiring to his hallmarks of academic excellence, research advancement, and community engagement with value-laden formation. His missionary motto, "May the darkness be enlightened," remains the spiritual compass of every SVD institution, including DWCB.
