History
DWCC's roots lie in the post-WWII missionary work of Fr. Benito Rixner, SVD and fellow SVD missionaries in Mindoro. Mindoro Junior College was established in April 1946 to address the severe post-war shortage of higher education on the island. Formal classes in Normal Education, Liberal Arts, Pre-Law, Typing, and Stenography opened on July 1, 1946 — marking the birth of what would become the only Catholic higher education institution in the entire MIMAROPA region.
The college expanded steadily. MBA was offered from 1980 (formally recognized 1985). In January 1981, the name was changed to Divine Word College of Calapan to reflect its SVD identity. In 1987, PAASCU granted Level II Accreditation (re-accredited 1993 and 1998). By 1995, the Civil Engineering Department ranked Top 1 in Region IV and Top 10 nationally for board exam performance.
In 2002, the DWCC-SIFE team won the national championship and represented the Philippines at the SIFE World Cup in Amsterdam, Netherlands. DWCC currently operates three campuses — the Janssen Campus (college), Freinademetz Campus (basic education), and a South Campus in Pinamalayan. In 2006, the Center for Mindoro Studies was established to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the Mangyan indigenous peoples. The current president is Rev. Fr. Renato A. Tampol, SVD, PhD. Motto: "Your Future is Our Mission."
